We checked in and despite our excitement about exploring we knew we needed to get a little sleep. So, we showered and took a nap. Well, does 6 hours qualify as a nap? Up at 7:45pm and we went out in search of dinner.
Chris and I were delighted and amazed at our surroundings. Today is Reunification Day and there was clearly a celebration going on near Hoan Kiem Lake. There was a "Cirque de Soleil" type show along side the lake and it drew a huge crowd of Vietnamese and foreigners. As we meandered along the busy streets it was evident that it was dinner time. The sidewalks had become dining rooms for the families that reside above and inbetween the shops. Everyone sitting on little plastic step stools, holding bowls of pho/noodles in the palms of their hands that were held very close to their mouths. They used chopsticks to move the food the very short trip from bowl to mouth. Most were oblivious to Chris and I as we passed through their "dining room".
